Showing a repainted head of St Mary for a window by Christopher Webb, dated 1950, In the Lady Chapel West Window at St Michael’s Church, Basingstoke, Hampshire.

The window was opposite  a shopping mall and someone had thrown a beer smashing a hole in the glass head.
The shards of glass fell a good 10ft to a hard tiled floor so shattered even more on impact.  At the time I traveled to Sherborne Abbey to view a Webb window in the East Ambulatory in the hope of finding a suitable portrait to copy. Nothing there was particularly suitable but eventually I managed to assemble enough fragments of the broken head to achieve an accurate likeness of the original portrait.
