Snow at Little Cheverall

The snows of 2011, I did several paintings. The cold landscape had a Russian feel to me. I think I’d just discovered the Russian painter, Isaac Levitan, who did groundbreaking work with his plein air impressionistic style at the time, I could really relate to him.

This is an amazing place to standl; one gets a sense of the vast open space to the surrounding hills to the North and East. Next time I’ll take a wider canvas to capture more of that space.
